A pensioner who was found face down in the sea after being knocked overboard by the boom of his yacht was fighting for his life last night in hospital.
The 72-year-old man from Exmouth was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Thursday evening after he fell from the 33ft (10m) yacht into water, near the River Exe.
The pensioner was dragged from the water by a passing crew who stopped the man lying face down in the water.
He was taken to Exmouth docks, where local coastguard officers carried out resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
