AN Aston Martin which spent 30 years gathering dust in a Devon garage after being bought in 1972 for £1,500 has sold for £320,700.
The 1964 DB5 Sports Saloon, with less than 48,000 miles on the clock, was put up for sale from the deceased estate of David Ettridge, who lived in Sidford.
The car, which was said to be in good condition but in need of restoration, had been estimated at £150,000 to £200,000, but sold for £320,700 – more than 200 times the price paid in 1972. A member of the Aston Martin owners' club, Mr Ettridge kept the car in a Sidmouth garage for more than 30 years, during which time a mouse made a nest of shredded newspaper in the engine.
