A NEW free festival is taking place in Cornwall on Sunday, May 26, at Heartlands.

Kernow Fest is a free entry one day extravaganza celebrating Cornish culture and bursting with fun, food and frolics.

Heartlands is hosting this action-packed day of free events and entertainment located on former derelict mine land within a World Heritage Site in the village of Pool in Cornwall.

Kernow Fest is from noon to 9.30pm and is sponsored by Heartlands' Charitable Trust, the Big Lottery Fund and Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

There are many attractions – including Cornwall Food & Drink LIVE – a pop-up Cornwall Food & Drink festival where you'll be spoilt for choice with oodles of delicious food and drink to sample and buy.

Cornwall's top producers will be showing just why Cornwall deserves its title as one of the best foodie destinations in the country.

Made In Cornwall Craft Exhibition will be showcasing some of Cornwall's best artists and designers, and there will be plenty of handmade products and gifts to suit any taste and budget, from driftwood mirrors to handmade jewellery.

The Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and Skinners Brewery Music Stage will feature a range of acts throughout the day, including The Cornish Worzels, exciting newcomer Tom Cary as well as a traditional Cornish group Skillywidden.

Visitors can also enjoy traditional horse-drawn cart rides and Cornish craft workshops.

There will be full access to the Heartlands World Heritage Site Mining Exhibition and Diaspora Botanical Gardens and Park, where you can follow in the footsteps of the journeys made by Cornish miners.

There will be lots of carnival fun for the whole family with colourful dance and theatre performances, face painting, giant inflatable slides, a climbing wall and free access to Heartlands outdoor adventure playground.

Finishing with a firework display that is sure to set off a chorus of 'ohhhhhs' and 'ahhhhs', the day will certainly end with a bang.

Entry to Kernow Fest is free. Parking is available on site.
