IF you are in the early stages of putting your house on the market and want to make the most of your home in order to attract a purchaser, choosing to declutter is always a sensible option.

Some homeowners will be ruthless and see putting their house on the market as an ideal opportunity to get rid of any unwanted items, whereas others want to keep their possessions, but also want the option to create more room.

One solution would be a 'self store to your door', whereby we leave a storage container for a fixed period of time outside the homeowner's premises and they can fill it with the items they are happy to put into storage.

We also offer a more involved service where our removals crew will go to the house, help the homeowner identify objects they want removing and our team will put it in the storage container.

Our team will then assist the homeowner with rearranging furniture.

We are finding that a lot of people will hire a container and a skip at the same time and put unwanted items into the skip and any possessions they want to keep into the container. On average, most people will fill a 250 cubic foot container – about a bedroom's worth of stuff.

This service is particularly ideal for people who want to declutter the home, clear out a spare bedroom, garage or loft.

Getting ready to move

If self-packing is the preferred method, you should be able to get everything you need from a removals firm.

We supply everything from packing tape and boxes, bubble wrap and acid free tissue paper to armchair covers.

And when it comes to actually moving your belongings from one property to another, there will be a removals option to suit everyone. Whether it is self-drive and managing the move yourself, hiring a professional 'man and a van' service to assist you, or choosing the full service where an experienced firm takes care of the packing and the entire removals process, planning and organising well in advance of the move date will help to alleviate most of the stress.

Some people prefer to split the packing process over several days, doing a bit each day, while others prefer to dedicate a weekend to plough through it all.

And don't forget about outside spaces too.

You will be surprised how many times we conduct a survey and homeowners forget about things like packing up the shed or garage.

Finally, preparation is key – the more prepared and organised you can be the better, and don't forget to ask the experts for help. There is a lot of good advice online too.
