Police in Exeter searching for a missing 78 year old woman have discovered a body.
Joan Russell was last seen on Friday 15th November at her home in Exeter.
Police divers searching the river Exe discovered the body of a woman in the weir near the Port Royal Public House at around 2.00pm this afternoon, Thursday 21st November.
Although the body has yet to be formally identified, her family have been informed of developments.
Only yesterday the twin sister of Joan spoke to the Echo in an emotional plea for information.
Miss Russell said: "She was suffering from nerves and I fear she may have gone in the river. She had been very down lately. She had an operation on her eyes and told the doctor about six weeks ago if she had to continue with the drops she would throw herself in the river.
"Everything got on top of her. She was a very worrying person and lived on her nerves.
"I am coping the best I can and just waiting for her to come home. I just hope. But it has been four days now. I am hoping I will see her again. She may have had an accident or gone into hospital. I don't know. But I am hoping she will come home even if she is not well. You have got to live in hope."
