Exeter City remain in the League Two play-off places on Saturday night following their 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle at St James's Park.

The Grecians had the first chance of the game when Alan Gow set up Jamie Cureton, but he saw his effort on goal blocked by Darren Purse.

Further chances fell for Liam Sercombe and Danny Coles, before Sercombe put the Grecians in front as he hit a 25-yard shot across Rene Gilmartin and into the corner of the goal.

Argyle responded to going behind well with Joe Lennox hitting a volley straight at Artur Krysiak just before half-time.

Cureton then missed a glorious chance to put City 2-0 up when he picked up the ball from a stray Robbie Williams header, but curled the ball wide of the post.

The home side were made to pay for that miss on 73 minutes when Lennox's deflected shot went in off the far post.

Cureton then missed another chance to put Exeter back in front, before Plymouth's Maxime Blanchard was sent-off for a second bookable offence.

However, despite being down to ten men, the Pilgrims managed to hang on for a point.

The result did not change Exeter City's position in the League Two table though as neither Fleetwood Town, Burton Albion or Chesterfield - the sides sitting directly below them in the table - were able to get a win either.
