The RSPCA is appealing for help to find the owners of a dog found burnt on a bonfire in Woodbury Woods near Exeter.
The badly charred remains were found by a member of the public on a bridleway leading through the woods which are next to a country club yesterday.
RSPCA inspector Sarah Heatherington said: "I estimate that the fire was fairly recent – the previous evening – and would like to establish who the owners of the dog are and the circumstances that lead to it being placed on a bonfire in the woods.
"It appears to be a white poodle type dog and it was one of the most distressing things I have seen for a long time."
If you have any information about this incident please contact the RSPCA's inspector information line and leave a message for inspector Heatherington on 0300 123 8018.
