Transport union RMT has confirmed that its members working for sub-contractors Mitie on First Great Western trains as cleaners, will be picketing at Paddington Station today tuesday january 11on the last day of a three-day strike in their fight for "workplace justice". The union has heaped criticism on both Mitie and First Group, who have secured a two-year extension on the Great Western franchise worth tens of millions in taxpayer-supported profits, claiming their members work in "appalling conditions for a pittance". Union bosses claim their members working as cleaners for Mitie on First Great Western are not paid the London living wage. RMT members working for Mitie on First Great Western at Paddington and Old Oak Common will be picketing at the station from 8am. Bob Crow, RMT general secretary, who described Mitie bosses as "greedy opportunists making a fast buck out of public contracts at their workers' expense", praised the "courage" of its members, adding: "Our members are determined to be paid properly and will continue their fight until they are given the London Living Wage."
