The police helicopter could be heard above Exeter in the early hours of this morning after an attempted car theft in the Exwick area.
Emergency services were called at 1:30am after a male was spotted breaking into a blue Ford Escort in Garland Close, Exeter.
A man, described as medium build, was seen accessing the car via the driver's door before causing roughly £400 worth of damage to the insides in an attempt to steal it.
The suspect is believed to have been wearing a turquoise hoodie and ran off in the direction of Widecombe Way.
Despite the dog unit and helicopter being called out the suspect was not tracked down.
Police are appealing to the public for any information on the incident and anybody who may have seen something are asked to call 101 and quote the crime number de/14/1527
