Tickets for comedy giant Lee Evans' 'secret' show in Exeter has sold out – just five and a half hours after going on sale. The one-off date at Exeter's Corn Exchange on May 14 is to trial brand new material for his massive late summer Monsters tour was announced this morning. However Exeter Corn Exchange have confirmed that the tickets were sold out by 4pm today. A representative of the theatre said that tickets were first announced via the emailing list at 10:30am which is sent to nearly 5,000 people. With jokes and routines still at an early stage, and with Lee referring to notes while performing, the Exeter audience will have the chance to influence the show that eventually takes to the stage at arenas across the UK - while promising to keep their lips firmly sealed about any of the content. The Monsters tour kicks off with a six-night "Work in Progress" run at Plymouth Pavilions, beginning on August 7, when it will be further refined, before taking to the road. Lee sold out five performances at Plymouth Pavilions last time he visited the Westcountry in 2011, making him the biggest selling comedy artist in the Pavilions' 20-year history - a record broken by Michael Macintyre in 2013, but likely to return to Lee's hands this year.
