A publican tried to lie to police about his driving licence – by pretending to be his identical twin. Ryan Coates told police he was Ross Coates when officers stopped his Land Rover on the A30 at Clyst Honiton, Devon, because his reversing lights were illuminated. He said he wanted to 'get out of it' when his L plated Land Rover was stopped and he knew he did not have insurance or a full driving licence – and tried to pass himself off as his identical twin. But the 35 year old, from Thatcham, Berks, later told the police the truth and 'apologised for his actions'. He admitted driving without a full licence, no insurance and wilfully obstructing the police and was fined £525 and had six points put on his licence. The Exeter JPs said he had 'lied to the police and dropped your own brother in it'.
