Aspiring bakers across the city and surrounding areas are being encouraged to showcase their skills in a cake-making competition. People if all ages are invited to the In-toto Kitchens of Exeter Bake-a-Cake competition, and have their creations judged by two highly-respected local chefs. Successful entrants will be asked to bring their cakes for judging by Peter Gorton, Masterchef of Great Britain, and Harriet Pecover, pastry chef at the Jack in the Green, Rockbeare and South West Chef of the Year finalist in 2012 and 2013. "We will be looking for interesting, creative recipes and cakes that are skillfully made and bursting with flavour," said Peter Gorton. "This is a wonderful opportunity for home bakers to demonstrate their love of cooking, with a chance to win a superb prize!" The company recently supplied the demonstration kitchens for the main cookery theatre and the West Country Larder stage at the Big Cake Show at Westpoint where they were used by Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Phil Vickery and other professional chefs. Bakers are asked to enter a recipe for the competition for a large cake of any flavour, shape and size before April 17. Successful entrants will be invited to bring their cakes to an open day the company's showroom next month as part of its 21st anniversary celebrations. "We have launched our Bake-a-Cake competition to enable the region's baking enthusiasts to show off their skills," said Gordon Bates, partner of In-toto Kitchens Exeter. Anyone wishing to enter should contact In-toto Exeter at exeter@intoto.co.uk or on 01392 824888 for an entry form.
