Exeter city centre was brought to a standstill as thousands of fans took part in a victory parade for Exeter Chiefs. The players showed off the LV= Cup as they paraded through the High Street this afternoon on two open top buses. They met fans and took part in a civic reception with the Lord Mayor of Exeter in the Guildhall. Thousands of people packed into the High Street to join in the celebrations. They heard the Lord Mayor praise the success of the Chiefs following their recent LV= Cup victory at Sandy Park. Rob Baxter's team, together with staff and officials from the club, left in the open top buses from St James's Park and travelled down Sidwell Street and into the High Street, before arriving at the Guildhall at 3pm for a Civic Reception hosted by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Rachel Lyons. The parade is not new for the Chiefs. There were similar scenes in 2010 when the Chiefs celebrated their promotion into the Aviva Premiership. The Lord Mayor said: "I am delighted for Exeter Chiefs that they have firmly established themselves as a power in English rugby by winning the LV= Cup on home soil at Sandy Park. My heartfelt congratulations go out to all the players and back room staff who have done so much to get the team to where it is now. "This is a day when all involved in the club, and the City, can be extremely proud to be associated with Exeter."
