Steven Gerrard will wait until the final curtain comes down on England's World Cup campaign to make a decision on his international future. The England skipper was widely tipped to announce his retirement from the international setup after England's fate in the competition was sealed by a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay. That result meant England crashed out of the tournament in the group stages for the first time since 1958. However, Gerrard has said that he will take his time before making any decision on his future. "There's no truth that I'll be making any announcement in the next week I need more time than that," said Gerrard. "I spoke to the manager and said I needed more time to decide on my future. "I think I've agreed with manager I'm going to speak to him in a few weeks "I'm going to speak to people who mean a lot to me but it's a big decision and I'll make it in due course." The Liverpool skipper, who has 113 caps for England, accepted responsibility for the team's exit and admitted that the team need to learn to combat the nous of other international sides. "The players take full responsibility for what went on," he added. "As leader I take responsibility and now it's gone wrong we have to shoulder that together "We have to take it on our shoulders and not let the manager stand out there on his own. "We came across a Uruguay side that were cute and clever and disruptive. They were difficult to beat, they never let England get any momentum going forward. "Maybe that comes down to experience. We've conceded four goals in five games and that tells you that we need to toughen up as a team." England still have one fixture left in the competition – a clash with Costa Rica who have beaten both Uruguay and Italy so far in Brazil. And Gerrard says the team will do all they can to win the match for the fans. "Thanks to the support the fans have given us over the last two years," said the 34-year-old. "All we can do is stick together. We agreed to fight for it together and take the responsibility together. We are only thinking of the fans now and they want a win in the last game and we want that as well."
