The Channel Island of Jersey was rocked by eight earthquakes in ten days - the effects of which were felt in Exeter, experts have revealed.
A magnitude 4.2 tremor, the biggest in nearly a century, shook homes and spooked residents on July 11.
The tremor registered on British Geological Survey monitoring station equipment in Exeter, Devon.
That was followed by a series of aftershocks and smaller quakes, the biggest of which was last Friday measuring magnitude 2.4, though most were too small to be noticed.
Met Office forecaster Sharon Merren said: "To have eight recorded in such a short time is very unusual. We certainly haven't seen that in a while."
The original earthquake, that has been described as the largest earthquake in the area for about 50 to 100 years, was felt across Southwest England.
