A doctor's first experience of arriving to work in Exeter was to see his parents attacked by two drunken yobs. Adam Scott and a friend shouted abuse at the family as they unpacked their son's belongings at his new home near the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and he spat at the doctor's mother. The 21-year-old stumbled upon the family after he had been out drinking and started and argument after he and his companion started examining valuables including a laptop which were being unloaded. Police were called and Scott was arrested after shouting abuse at a female officer, Exeter Crown Court was told. Scott, of New North Road, Exeter, but from Exmouth, admitted common assault and was jailed for two months, suspended for a year, and ordered to attend an alcohol education course as part of 12 months supervision. Miss Caroline Bolt said the young doctor had just arrived to take up a new job in Exeter last month and had been brought down by his parents from their home near London. They were confronted by Scott and another man and the father was allegedly attacked while Scott spat at the mother and then swore at police. Mr Piers Norsworthy, defending, said:"This was a disgusting display by this young man who was in drink. The probation report shows he has a problem with alcohol which needs attention." He said Scott has already spent a month in custody as a result of his arrest. Judge Erik Salomonsen told Scott:"You are 21 and probably think you are a hard man. The abused you directed towards the female police officer was appalling and absolutely disgraceful. "So too was the act of spitting at the mother. You were in drink and had recently been made subject of a suspended sentence for unrelated offences of harassment. "If there are any further offences you will be in breach of two suspended sentences and you will go inside."
