Exeter City's promotion hopes are over for another season following a 1-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town at St James's Park.
Russell Penn scored the only goal of the game after six minutes as he latched onto a ball in the area and hit a right-foot shot across Artur Krysiak and into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
It was Penn's first goal of the season, but City responded to the set back well creating numerous chances to level.
First Cureton turned and hit a shot from 12-yards out, which ended up narrowly wide of the post and then Jamie Reid almost added to his two goals he got last weekend when he drilled a shot equally close after 17 minutes.
Further first half chances fell Cureton and Gow, but both of those were off target as well and City went into the break behind.
The start of the second half saw optimistic appeals for a penalty, when Gow was bundled over in the box, turned down before Cureton put the ball into the net only to be denied by the offside flag.
But after that City seemed to lose their composure slightly and struggled to create any real chances until the final few minutes.
Substitute Jimmy Keohane came closest to levelling the scores with 85 minutes gone, but he saw his half volley expertly tipped over the crossbar by Scott Brown.
And with Bradford City winning 1-0 at home to Burton Albion the final result left Paul Tisdale's side four points adrift of the play with one game to play.
