Teignmouth is set to open a brand new Waitrose store this month, after the 3-week fit out has been completed.
The new branch in Lower Brook Street will be officially unveiled on Thursday March 13 by local MP, Anne Marie Morris who will join Waitrose partner, Joanne Gill and branch manager, Chris Reynold in welcoming in the store's first customers.
Chris Reynard said: 'We can't wait to open the doors and greet our new customers. We'd like to thank everyone that has shown their support as we're looking forward to playing our part in attracting even more shoppers to the area.'
Waitrose Teignmouth has already confirmed the Rowcroft Hospital, Teignmouth RNLI Lifeboat and Alice Cross Community Centre as the first local causes to benefit from their 'green token' scheme. At the end of the month, £1,000 will be divided between the three charities, according to the number of tokens received from customers who nominate different charities each month. In total, around £12,000 is donated each year.
From opening, the store will also be launching its Partner volunteering initiatives which will see 250 staff working hours a year donated to local projects and causes.
MP, Anne Marie Morris said: 'I'm confident that Waitrose will make a positive contribution to the local community here in Teignmouth. As well as providing a boost to the local economy, the Community Matters 'green token' scheme will play an invaluable role in helping out charities in our area.'
Waitrose Teignmouth will be run by a team of around 130 Partners and 70 new members of staff. Last year, every employee received the equivalent of nine weeks wages in bonus, so a significant proportion of profits will still remain within the local community.
