A Late penalty from Alan Gow saw Exeter City rescue a point from their Devon derby at Plainmoor to keep their unbeaten start to 2013 going.
The Scotsman was tripped as he wriggled he way past a couple of challenges in the area and he stepped up to plant the 84th minute spot kick into the top left hand corner of the goal.
Paul Tisdale rang the changes before the match, giving GuillemBauza a rare start and dropping the in form Matt Oakley, Jimmy Keohane and Gow to the bench.
The City manager was hoping to bring the players he had dropped into the action late on with the scores level, but was forced to make an early change when John O'Flynn injured his hamstring.
Keohane replaced him, but City found themselves a goal down minutes later when Tommy Doherty handled the ball in the area. Rene Howe stepped up to dispatch the spot kick.
Torquay United were the better side for much of the first half, but the introduction of Gow at the start of the second half start to swing the match back towards City.
Torquay began to sit deeper and deeper. Keohane went close as he tested Michael Poke with an instinctive back-heel before Gow was sent tumbling in the box for a what would prove to be the equalising penalty.
