PET detectives have been called in to help trace an Exeter woman's missing cat.
Animal Search UK's professional team were contacted by Sarah Tamblyn, 46, of St Thomas, whose two-year-old cat, Gizmo, went missing from her city home at the end of December.
The team of pet detectives, led by former police officer Tom Watkins, who has more than 18 years of investigation experience, carry out door-to-door enquiries and assist with posters, leaflets, advice and expert support for owners.
Sarah said: "I had appealed on social network sites and Animal Search got in touch and said they would help as it would be covered by my pet insurance.
"They sent me 35 posters and 500 leaflets. I have put the posters up all over Alphington and St Thomas and leafleted 10 to 12 streets where there have been sightings.
"We really miss Gizmo, as does his brother Ozzie, who is pining. Gizmo is quite smart and a real character, and we just want him home."
The pet private eyes scan lost and found databases in the hope of being reunited with their missing pets.
Mr Watkins said: "Most missing pets are found within a few miles of home.
"The challenge faced by owners is making sure as many people as possible know their pet has gone missing, and encouraging them to be vigilant in keeping an eye out for them.
"Unfortunately, work and family commitments often mean owners don't have as much time as they'd like to devote to scouring the area looking for their missing pet, and this is one of the ways in which Animal Search UK can help."
Gizmo should be easy for members of the public to recognise. His nose is pink but he has a distinctive black spot on his right nostril. He has a tabby back and tail, although his paws and tummy are all white.
It is thought he might have become disorientated after being scared by fireworks.
Mr Watkins promised they would do all they could to leave no stone unturned in the search for a pet.
Mr Watkins said: "We'll make sure we have as much background as possible before we commence our investigation. We'll check details about their normal routine, and their usual patterns of movement."
